After it was confirmed that Fernando Llorente wanted to leave Athletic Bilbao, the Italian press wasted no time in linking league champions Juventus with the striker. The paper claims that Juventus manager Antonio Conte is a huge admirer of the young midfielder, who has been nicknamed 'the Basque Messi', and they believe that Juventus chief-executive Giusseppe Marotta is hoping to make a double swoop for Llorente and Muniain, whose contract expires in 2015, and who has a buy-out clause of 45 million euros.
The Italians are aware of how difficult it will be to tempt Muniain away from San Mamés, above all in the hostile atmosphere which Llorente's decision has created. Athletic are very unlikely to sell one of their brightest young stars in Muniain, who has a long future at the club ahead of him.
