Real Madrid’s Brazilian defender Marcelo took part in his first pre-season training session at Valdebebas on Wednesday, having returned from the Olympic Games in London with a silver medal. His attendance contrasts with the absence of 14 Real Madrid players who are currently on international duty around the world.
Real Madrid returned to work following three days off at the end of its US tour and José Mourinho added seven academy players to the first team players at his disposal. According to the club these were Óscar Plano, Nacho and Fabinho from Real Madrid Castilla, and Dani Suárez, Kamal, Noblejas and Bruno from Real Madrid C. With a great number of absentees in the team, Mou has started preparing for Madrid’s opening league game against Valencia, to be played this Sunday at the Santiago Bernabéu (19:00).
The players trained in two separate groups. The first involved goalkeepers Adán and Jesús, who did specific exercises with goalkeeping coach, Silvino Louro, before they completed the second part of the session with the rest of the group. In the second group, under fitness coach Rui Faria, the outfield players completed a number of circuit exercises that ended with shooting on goal.
